Pre-Sterilized Deimos Cubensis Spore Syringe for Microscopy
Deimos is a novel variety of Psilocybe cubensis descending Mars and Phobos. Phobos was an albino isolation of Mars, and Deimos is a version of Phobos that started dropping black/purple spores. Deimos retains the white caps from Phobos while producing visible spores which allow us to offer it in multi-spore syringe form.
The cubensis variety known as Mars does not have a clear origin, but the first references we can find to that variety were from early 2019. Mars was a relatively standard variety of cubensis, but MycoCat Genetix saw potential for something great. They worked with Mars for roughly two years to achieve an albino isolation, naming it Phobos after the larger of planet Mars two moons. Their hard work and dedication was rewarded when Phobos was crowned the microdose champion of Entheofest 2023. Ultimately the variety was relatively unstable however, so it was difficult to preserve the true albino isolation.
We found Deimos in our attempts to stabilize Phobos. It is a stable phenotype that consistently produces large fruits with white caps. We named this new Psilocybe cubensis variety after Mars’ smaller moon, Deimos, to preserve the history and lineage of the strain. Just as MycoCat saw potential in Mars, we see the same potential in Deimos. Its distinct white caps are a consistently eye-popping characteristic, and its spore production opens up a world of possibilities. With further development, Deimos could be further isolated or crossed to produce countless new cubensis varieties.
