Michigan Needs Your Help! Contact Senators to Get Mushrooms Decriminalized Statewide

  • News

On September 14, 2023, Senator Jeff Irwin introduced Senate Bill 0499 which seeks to decriminalize entheogenic plant and fungi use statewide. The bill is currently being reviewed by the Committee on Regulatory Affairs, but we need advocates for entheogens to send emails to encourage the committee to move forward with this proposal. It is time for action and we need your help get psilocybin mushrooms and other natural plant medicines decriminalized in Michigan.

Michigan’s Senate Committee on Regulatory Affairs consists of 10 Senators. Their names and emails are included below, as well as a template email that you can send to each senator to express your support. You can simply copy the template and fill in the placeholders (in brackets) for each Senator as well as your own name and contact information. This is just a basic template so feel free to include personal touches to strengthen our case, and we would love to hear from you if there is something you think we should add or change.

Let’s all work together to get this exciting bill passed!

Dear [Senator’s Name]

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of Michigan in support of Senate Bill 0499 (2023), which is currently under consideration.

This bill, sponsored by Senator Jeff Irwin, proposes amendments to sections 7401, 7403, and 7404 of the 1978 PA 368 (MCL 333.7401 et seq.). The bill primarily addresses the penalties and conduct associated with entheogenic plants and fungi, seeking to exempt certain circumstances from criminal penalties.

I believe that this bill represents a significant step forward in our understanding and acceptance of these substances. The use of entheogenic plants and fungi has shown promising results in the field of mental health, providing potential benefits for individuals suffering from conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain.

While I understand the concerns regarding public safety and potential misuse, I believe that with proper regulation and education, we can mitigate these risks. This bill could pave the way for more research into these substances and their potential benefits.

I urge you to support this bill and contribute to a more progressive and understanding approach towards entheogenic plants and fungi. Our community, the people of Michigan, could greatly benefit from the potential therapeutic uses of these substances.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
